                              HEALTH    OFFICE

Welcome to the Health Office at Birmingham Community Charter High School. We are happy to help keep you healthy!  The Health Office is located in the administration building across from the Main Office. Our hours during the regular school year are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 P.M.

Medications: We encourage students to take routine medications at home if possible but understand that sometimes medications or treatments need to be taken during school hours.  In this circumstance we require the following:

  • A "Request for Medication to be Taken During School Hours" form completed and signed by both the physician and the parent; and
  • Medication to be supplied in the original labelled container.

Students with diabetes, asthma, and/or severe allergies may carry their emergency medications with them to be used when needed.  A "Request for Self-Administration of Medication During School Hours" form will need to be completed by the physician, parent and student and turned into the health office.  Medications carried by the student should have their name clearly written on it.

Duties:

At the health office we will:

  • collect and set up medications for all students who need to take medications while on campus;
  • provide students with first aid;
  • maintain immunization records;
  • provide information about local health clinics and other resources;
  • clear students for sports;
  • provide hearing and vision screens upon request.

We request parents to not send their student to school if:
  • they have had a fever within the last 24 hours;
  • they need prescription pain medication;
  • sore throat;
  • discharge from their eye(s);
  • diarrhea;
  • thick green/brown mucous.

Please encourage your student to come to the health office if they feel unwell--we can provide them with snacks, a quick rest, or a quiet place so that they can resume their school/work day.

Health related absences:  If your student will be absent for an extended period please contact the health office for possible referral for Home/Hospital School.  If your student need to return with a wheelchair, crutches or other devise please make sure your MD has written a note indicating this need.

Accommodations such as extra passing period time may be made through the health office for students with health concerns verified by their MD in writing.
