Taking College Classes in High School

Why take Community College Classes?

  1. College level classes while in high school are FREE to high school students!
  2. Gives you an early start on college classes!
  3. Looks good to employers (if your looking for a job) and for colleges.

Before Taking Community College Classes

  • Think about what is interesting to you!
  • Take a quick assessment on NAVIANCE to help you get an idea if your not sure.
  • Choose wisely because this class will stay on your college transcript permanently.

More tips:

  • Make sure the class is UC/CSU transferable if you want to be able to transfer the credits to a college or university.
  • Make sure there are no prerequisites for you to take the class. This means that you don't have to take another class before taking the one you're requesting.
  • Remember you will need to purchase books or materials for any classes you take on your own outside of what Birmingham offers. Look for classes where you do NOT need to purchase any books!
