Welcome to Birmingham Community Charter
Track & Field
New athletes are required to participate and complete a minimum of 1 of 2 try-outs in either the FALL and/or WINTER session. Try-outs are used to evaluate athletes for potential events. It is based on their natural athletic ability, not how good of athletic shape they are in. Below are the minimum standards for each event. These must be achieved at try-outs in order to be considered for specific events. There are NO CUTS for 1st year athletes, but coaches will determine an athlete's events!
EVENT STANDARDS ARE BELOW TO REVIEW. PLEASE ALSO REVIEW ATTENDANCE POLICY.

Coaches determine what events athletes will compete in, NOT PARENTS or ATHLETES or PRIVATE COACHES. The coaching staff will utilize the talents of our athletes to benefit: 1. The Team and 2. The Individual – IN THAT ORDER. Track athletes and parents must ACCEPT that coaching decisions are made with the best interest of the team taking precedence over the desires of any individual team member. Time and marks are not the only standard used in determining an athlete's event. Coaches reserve the right to use their professional discretion in determining the events an athlete is capable of competing on this team. Track events may change year to year and week to week due to an athlete’s performance, improvement, and commitment level. It is not always the fastest or best that will compete, but the most committed EVERYDAY!
The Individual’s performance and ability will be taken into consideration when it comes to what events they are assigned to for league finals (individual conferences will be held with athletes and coaches to make that determination (What event will they be more successful at league, city, or state).
Season Attendance Policy. ATHLETES ARE ALLOWED 5 ABSENCES TOTAL REGARDLESS OF THE REASON OR EXCUSE FOR MISSING PRACTICE. THIS IS A “NO QUESTIONS ASKED” POLICY. WE WILL NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN AN EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED ABSENCE, OR AN ACCEPTABLE OR UNACCEPTABLE ABSENCE. Leaving early from practice will count as an absence. Athletes MAY be dismissed from the team or sit out of a meet if absent more than the days indicated above. Illnesses and injuries will be considered but only if an athlete has a doctor's note indicating restrictions. Vacations, and/or family occasions will count against the athlete if practice is missed.
ATTN. OUTSIDE CLUB SPORTS. YOU ARE HELD TO THE SAME COMMITMENT STANDARD AND ATTENDANCE POLICY AS ALL OTHER TRACK ATHLETES. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE PRACTICE EARLY. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MISS PRACTICE OR MEETS DUE TO CLUB SPORTS. YOU HAVE 5 DAYS AS ALL OTHERS TRACK ATHLETES. AFTER 5 DAYS YOU ARE SUBJECT TO THE SAME CONSEQUENCES AS ALL OTHER TRACK ATHLETES.
TRACK ATHLETES ARE NOT EXCUSED FROM PRACTICES AND MEETS DUE TO CLUB SPORTS!
