Program: Elective (3 units)

The purpose of this course is to provide the fundamentals in which the Elements of Art and Principles of Design are explored. This class will help students gain the basic skills and knowledge they will need to master their artistic vision. We will go into depth regarding the elements and principles, as well as explore different artists and artistic movements and styles. Students will learn how to solve artistic problems in unique and expressive ways while meeting the CA state standards. All art classes at Birmingham are designed to meet the visual arts, and literacy standards. Students are expected to meet these standards to successfully complete this course and potentially be granted college credit. This course is articulated with Pierce College and is an introductory course to several pathways here at Birmingham Community Charter High School.
